| 7th Annual Doolin Walk held April 19, 2009 |
April 2009
"The 7th Annual Five Mile Walk" in Doolin, Co. Clare, Ireland, was held on April 19th this year.
The walk begins and ends at Doolin's Russell Cultural Center whose members have been instrumental
in organizing the annual event. The nearly circular route adopted 6 years ago includes both hills and valleys to
make the walk more challenging and gave organizers better control over opening and closing ceremonies.
Light refreshments, Raffles and Traditional Irish music followed the event.

| Dunleavy Family gives thanks: |
April 2009
The 7th Annual Michael Dunleavy Walk & Road Race was big success. The beautiful sunny day brought out more than three hundred runners and several hundred walkers to gather at the Vinson-Owen Elementary School and honor the memory of our son, Michael J. Dunleavy. We sincerely would like to thank each and every participant.
The main reason for the success of this event was the outpouring of support by people too numerous to mention, and the dedication of all the volunteers who made this event run smoothly. In general, a huge Thank You goes out to the following:
The principal, staff, parents and children of the Vinson-Owen School; the event committee, and the event volunteer staff; Residents who cheered the participants and provided refreshments along the run/walk route; Winchester town officials, police and fire departments; Staff and students of various schools in Winchester, including Winchester hockey and football teams with their coaches; The band, corporate and private sponsors, and all individuals who made monetary or prize donations; Various media outlets, print and radio, website management, printing companies, and PR spokespeople.
A special Thank You goes out to the sixth grade children and their friends, who organized a car wash on Saturday and collected over $800.00. Miss Brodeur’s third grade class hosted a lemonade stand which collected almost $250.00. Some of Michael’s classmates who are now in high school collected over $500.00, and one ten year old boy (Peter Van Seventer) went door to door and collected over $1000.00.
Michael’s friend Brian Mullin blanketed the town with flyers, while his mom organized all the wonderful prizes and raffle items. Our director Aileen Slater kept track of all activities to ensure a smooth event, for all participants.
Also to our many friends who contributed in many ways to the success of this event and especially the participants whose enthusiastic endorsement of the Seventh Annual Michael J. Dunleavy Walk & Road Race and all previous events, gives us the drive and inspiration, to continue the fund-raising efforts started by Michael just two weeks prior to his passing.
The event raised approximately $30,000.00 for the Michael J. Dunleavy Foundation. This money goes to Mass General Hospital, Pediatric Brain Tumor Research Fund which helps them in their mission, to find a cure for Pediatric Brain Cancer. The Foundation also makes substantial donations to Camp Sunshine which allows families with terminally ill children spend time at their retreat in Maine.
We sincerely thank you for your continued support,
Gerry Toni and family.
