Michael J. Dunleavy Foundation - About the Foundation

About the Foundation:

The Michael J. Dunleavy Foundation was incorporated in the fall of 2002 following the passing if it's name sake Michael James Dunleavy, age 8 who succumbed to an inoperable brain tumor which was first diagnosed in the late spring of that year. The Foundation was born out of Michael's own desire to help other children who had cancerous brain tumors or other illness' and their families. Dunleavy Foundation, Inc. has received tax exemption status under Section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Service. The Foundation is listed as a Public Charity and all contributions are tax deductible.

Our Giving Philosophy:

While all cancer research is very important the Michael J. Dunleavy Foundation focuses on childhood cancers and brain tumor research as well as treatment and assistance for children and families afflicted with this illness. All proceeds go to support these types of research or to organizations that assist families during these difficult times. We rely on our volunteer organization and donations from both public and private sources to insure that the highest possible amounts are given to support our goals.

Fund Raising:

The first Annual Michael J. Dunleavy 5K Walk/Road Race kicked off the foundation's first organized fund raising event in April of 2003. The Walk/Road Race was organized by the Teachers, Administrators, Employees and friends of the Vinson Owen School, in Winchester, Massachusetts. This years race is scheduled for April 6, 2008.
